Business relief fund for Covid-19 lock down:
Since lock down began in the first week of March, small business have been forced to close doors fro trading. This has left numerous small businesses in distress as they are unable to make sales. which in turn means bills cannot be covered, staff still need to be paid and this is leaving business owners out-of-pocket having to cover shortfalls.
In the midst of this pandemic some good news is that a relief fund has come into play by means of a relief fund established and administered by the Department of Small Business Development primarily for SMME's. The fund will supply soft-loan funding up to 6 months and comes in to effect from 1 April. The fund is aimed at providing relief on existing debts and payments, and to assist companies to get raw material, as well as to pay labour and operational costs. However the fund will favour SMME's owned by women, youth and people with disabilities.
Only companies that were registered with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) by 28 February 2020 can apply for the relief funding. The business must be 100% owned by South African citizens and at least 70% of employees are South African citizens. The business must also be registered and compliant with SARS and UIF. Meaning your Tax and Accounting Services are vital for application. Bufsa Group Cape Town are a registered financial services provider and can assist in all things Tax and Accounting based.
The application process for funding is quite stringent. The business must register on the National SMME Database and complete the online application form .
Supporting documents must be uploaded, which include:
Proof that the business is negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic (the link between the distress and the pandemic should be made clear);
The company’s statutory documents;
FICA documents (such as municipal accounts, or a letter from a traditional authority for businesses based in rural areas);
Certified ID copies of the company’s directors;
3 months of bank statements;
Latest annual financial statements or latest management accounts not older than three months from date of application;
The business profile;
6 months cash flow projections;
Copy of lease agreement if applying for rental relief;
If applying for payroll relief, details of employees – as registered with UIF and including banking details – will be required as payroll payments will be made directly to employees;
Facility statements of other funders; and
Detailed breakdown on the application of funds (for instance, salaries or rent).

How to clean stains off your white kitchen counter tops:
With everyone being safe at home during these drastic times. Lockdown sure has given birth to some home Master Chefs. However, learning new dishes comes with the downside of cleaning. For those who have white Kitchen Countertops these are susceptible to staining especially for those who have wood or melamine countertops. Removing stains does not mean you have to go out and buy expensive cleaning chemicals that would damage your counters. You can get them clean with a few common household items and a little elbow grease.
How to Clean Marble and Granite Countertops
What you need:
1. Water
2. Dish soap
3. Microfiber cloths
4. Baking Soda
5. Hydrogen Peroxide
6. Plastic Wrap
7. Tape
Cleaning:
Mix warm water and mild dish soap for everyday cleaning, polish with a microfiber towel to shine up the stone. Avoid abrasive or acidic cleaners, which can strip the sealer and etch the stone.
Stain Removal:
For stains on granite or marble countertops, clean with a paste of baking soda and water (for oil-based stains) or hydrogen peroxide (for water-based stains). Apply the paste to the stain, cover with plastic wrap, and tape down the edges. Let sit for a few days (or overnight at the very least), and then rinse off the paste. Repeat the process if the stain is not completely gone. Be sure to do a spot test first to ensure the method won’t affect the colour or finish of the stone.
Sealing:
These surfaces are popular for their low maintenance appeal, but they do need to be regularly resealed to protect them from stains. Reseal granite annually and marble 2x a year.
How to Clean Quartz or Engineered Stone Countertops
What you need:
1. Dish soap
2. Water
3. Nonabrasive glass or surface cleaner
4. Microfiber cloths
5. Nonabrasive sponge
Cleaning:
Like it's natural stone counterparts, these countertops can be washed with mild soap and water.
Stain Removal:
Quartz countertops are largely stain-resistant, but if you do come across a stain use a glass cleaner and a nonabrasive sponge to clean the area.
Sealing:
Engineered stone countertops don’t need any resealing to stay in pristine condition
How to Clean Soapstone Countertops
What you need:
1. Multipurpose cleaner
2. Microfiber cloths
3. Mineral oil
4. Fine-grit sandpaper
Cleaning:
This natural stone is nonporous, making it resistant to stains and scratches. Clean it with almost any multipurpose cleaner, as long as it’s not abrasive.
Stain Removal:
Most stains can be removed with a multipurpose cleaner. Scratches and tough stains can be removed with very fine sandpaper (do not use rougher than 80 grit). Apply mineral oil after sanding.
Sealing:
The look of the material will change over time, depending on whether you use mineral oil, which speeds up the oxidation process and makes the stone look darker. Some prefer the natural aged look and leave the stone to age. Mineral oil can help protect the counters from stains.
Switching to Natural or Engineered Stone Countertops is not only a more aesthetically pleasing but comes with more benefits for hygiene and functionality. Check out our website www.earth-stone.co.za f or our various options, send us a mail and one of our consultants will be in touch.

More on Kitchen Hardware:
In last month’s blog, we covered the importance of Kitchen Hardware that is often overlooked. Now let us have a look at the different kinds of hardware and what each one entails to have a better understanding of what you require for different types of kitchen renovations. As we know there are many different styles and ways we can renovate a kitchen, so which hardware matches a particular style of kitchen. This will help you better understand your choices when renovating your kitchen. Firstly let’s have a look at runners. Runners are the backbone to your drawers. This allows for the drawers to easily open with a soft pull. There are a few different types of runners for depending on how your kitchen cabinets have been installed.
The main options often being:
SIDE MOUNT RUNNERS:
The ‘slides’ themselves are attached horizontally to the timber drawer box and the cabinet carcass. Side mount runners are useful across a wide variety of applications because of their weight-bearing capabilities and durability. These are available in either a silver ball-bearing unit or an epoxy coated ‘roller wheel’ mechanism.
CENTRE MOUNT RUNNERS:
Runners with single slides that mount directly under the centre of the timber drawer box. Centre
mount runners are seldom used in the kitchen as they restrict the height of the drawer box and hold less weight than side mount alternatives.
UNDER MOUNT RUNNERS:
Runners fix to the sides of the cabinet carcass and connect to a locking rail that is attached to the underside of the drawer box ensuring the mechanism is concealed and making it aesthetically pleasing to the eye when the drawer is open. Both side mount and under mount runners are available in different forms with the more basic of them being fitted to the sides of timber (usually melamine) drawer box, while the more advanced options are metal or powder coated and form the sides, and sometimes the back, of the actual drawer box; thus providing a more sleek and sophisticated look when the drawers are open. Some brands offer a variety of colours in these metal drawer boxes as well as materials; from white, black and grey to clear or frosted glass. Runners come in varying lengths to accommodate non-standard depth units as well as offering varying degrees of extension.
